"The compass will always show you the right direction, so you will stop relying on your own guesses. Like this, wherever you are, you have this sense that shows you the truth." - Ajahn Chah

Treating our parents

'God' is a designation for mother & father.
'The first deities' is a designation for mother & father.
'The first teachers' is a designation for mother & father.
'Those worthy of gifts' is a designation for mother & father.

Why is that?

Mother & father do much for their children.
They care for them, nourish them, introduce them to this world."

Mother and father,
being compassionate
towards their family of children,
are called
"God,"
"early teachers"
"worthy of gifts,"

Thus the wise should venerate them,
Pay them due honor,

Provide them with food and drink,
Give them clothing and a bed,
Anoint and bathe them
And also wash their feet.

When he performs such service
For his mother and his father,

They praise that wise person even here(in this life)
And he rejoices in heaven after death.

Of all the frangrances - sandal, tagara, blue lotus & jasmine - the fragance of virtue is by far the sweetest.
