'Whichever beings, practice excellent behaviors in action, speech and thoughts at early Morning, Noon and Evening. They'll have a Happy Morning, Happy Noon, Happy Evening'

- Anuguttara Nikaya 3.150,
Pubbanha Sutta (Discourse on Morning)
Let this be your new year resolution:
I shall try my very best to avoid evil deeds and practice good deeds.

What are Virtues?
1. Refrain from Killing.
2. Refrain from Stealing.
3. Refrain from Sexual Misconduct.
4. Refrain from Lying.
5. Refrain from taking intoxicants, alcoholic drinks and drugs.

Five Blessings gained by a righteous person through his practice of virtue:
1. Great increase of wealth through his diligence;2. A favorable reputation;
3. Approaches anyone in the society with a Confident manner, without timidity;
4. A peaceful death;
5. A rebirth in a happy state, in a heavenly world.

The heart is not only driven by love, kindness, and compassion; it is also driven by desire, greed, and anger. We need to train the heart, not simply follow it.
Train the heart in virtue.

May you spend the year 2010 with Excellent behaviours in Action, Speech and Thoughts.
You'll have a Happy year ahead.

Happy New Year!

Of all the frangrances - sandal, tagara, blue lotus & jasmine - the fragance of virtue is by far the sweetest.
